Leveraging zebrafish’s unique transparent larval stage, Prof. Semmelhack utilises imaging and optogenetic techniques to understand how neuron activity reflects visual stimulus and how subsequent motor commands are issued.

Taking both a top-down approach with learning behaviour and a bottom-up approach from neural circuits, Prof. Lai’s lab explores how information is processed, stored and used to adjust behaviour. The insight into neural plasticity and emotional learning can further therapeutic interventions for various psychiatric disorders.
